IžeThe logo of the National and University Library in Zagreb is a letter taken from the Croatian Glagolitic script „iže“ (transliterated Latin script „i“). It was taken from the Misal po zakonu rimskoga dvora (1483; Missal according to the Law of the Court of Rome), the oldest Croatian Glagolitic incunabula, the first European missal not printed in Latin language and script. Harps in the Reading Room of the Music and Audio CollectionNUL owns two harps, gifts by Rajka Mazzoni-Dobronić. One of the harps is Érard double pedal gothic type harp from 1910, with gilded and luxuriously decorated neck and front column with 47 strings. The second harp is a small Irish harp (also known as Celtic or Gaelic harp) with a single row of strings and pins for each string. The Vinodol CodeThe oldest completely preserved monument of customary law in Croatian. It was transcribed from an original at the beginning of the 16th century in Glagolitic cursive on 14 parchment sheets, 24,3×16,5 cm, with initials decorated with plant and geometrical motifs and drawings in the margins. The Vinodol Code is kept in the Manuscripts and Old Books Collection of the NUL and is a part of its digitized heritage. Institutionum linguae Illyricae libri duoThe first Croatian grammar, the work of the Croatian Jesuit, author and linguist Bartol Kašić (1575-1650). Kašić does not use the term grammar in its title, but regulation (institutio), thus showing his modesty, although he had written grammar that was not only the beginning of the Croatian grammar tradition but it also serves honor to that tradition. The first edition of the first Croatian grammar is kept in Manuscripts and Old Books Collection and is a part of the digitized heritage of the NUL. Napoleon's atlasMarine atlas and its complementary report, both in manuscript, are work of one of the most prominent hydrographers and marine explorers Charles Francois Beautemps-Beaupré (1766-1854). In 1806 he was sent by Napoleon to the eastern Adriatic in order to conduct hydrographic measurements. This valuable and unique work is a result of six months' of analysis. The Atlas contains marine manusript maps and harbour blueprints in colour and large dimensions of Istria, Zadar and Šibenik and Split area. This unique atlas was produced for Napoleon himself, as was mentioned in the report. They are both kept in Collection of Maps and Atlases. Collection of Maps and AtlasesThe Collection has been founded 67 years ago. It consists of 40.000 maps sheets and 1.500 atlases. Maps engraved in copper, wood and manuscript maps dating 16-19 century (1500 maps), copper-engraved atlases by G. Mercator, A. Ortelius, W. J. Blaeu, V. M. Coronellius etc. have distinctive value. Over 6000 maps have been digitized. Foreign Croatica CollectionForeign Croatica Collection at the NUL among other materials collects books by our authors published abroad. For instance, it stores the works of Miro Gavran in Chinese and Arabic, as well as the works of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić in Bengali. Digitized articles from the Homeland War3645 digitized articles published from 1991 until 1992 are available at the Collection of the Homeland War. They are articles from the daily and weekly press, from Croatian and foreign newspapers and journals. They can be browsed using the computer in the Reading Room of the Collection only. Portal of Digitized Journals ( http://dnc.nsk.hr )It contains a selection of the oldest Croatian journals in digital form. The goal of the portal is to make the contents of old Croatian journals as accessible as possible to the cultural and scientific public, as well as to protect and preserve it as cultural and scientific heritage. Croatian Web Archives ( http://haw.nsk.hr/ )Croatian Web Archives of the National and University Library in Zagreb is a collection of selected contents harvested from the Internet and stored on the server at the Library. It is designed for harvesting and storing permanently publications on the Internet as a part of Croatian cultural heritage.
