“Wealth of color and tradition”: NSK partner in project awarded CENL grant
The Conference of European National Librarians (CENL) awarded a €5,000 grant as part of its support grants programme to The St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of the Republic of Bulgaria for Wealth of color and tradition, a project which the Bulgarian national library launched in cooperation with the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK), National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, Đurđe Crnojević National Library of Montenegro, National Library of Serbia and National Library of Romania. Submitted to CENL at the 2022 call for applications for its Hidden Stories Support Fund, the project is aimed at the organisation of a homonymous exhibition that will spotlight the six libraries’ digital heritage revealing the rich national folklores and traditions of their respective peoples.
Each of the partner libraries will contribute a selection of digital copies of photographs, sketches or illustrations in its collections presenting the national costumes and related traditional embroidery which will be featured as part of an online exhibition as well as of a physical exhibition, scheduled to open at The St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of the Republic of Bulgaria in November 2022.
The project activities include the physical exhibition’s tour and presentation to an international audience, while its online version is expected to keep growing through subsequent additions to it of new items from the participating libraries’ digital collections.
A similar CENL grant was awarded to Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, for a project focusing on reading to children from an early age.
