Representative of National Library of Israel visits NSK
On 8 September 2023, the representative of the National Library of Israel and digital archiving expert Mr Eyal Miller visited the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and discussed with NSK representatives opportunities for cooperation between the two libraries.
As the Head of Israel’s national library’s project Historical Jewish Press, Mr Miller presented the efforts that his library has been putting into the digitisation of historical Jewish periodicals over the last nearly twenty years to bring this valuable material in one place and make it available to the public. Set up as a result of these efforts, Israel’s National Library Newspaper Collection offers easy access to digitised historical newspaper and journal titles from Israel and other countries with whose institutions the Israeli national library is cooperating.
Learning about several dozen Jewish periodicals titles published before the end of World War Two preserved in the collections of the National and University Library in Zagreb, Mr Miller reviewed this material and was acquainted with the Croatian national library’s historical newspapers and journals digitisation programme.
Mr Miller also met with the Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Dr Ivanka Stričević, with who he discussed the opportunities for cooperation between the two libraries and from who he received the digital copies of two historical Jewish newspaper titles preserved in the Croatian national library’s collection.
