“Reading is easy – with easy-to-read digital content!”: NSK project targeting persons with reading disabilities presented as part of Croatian Book Month 2022
On 10 November 2022, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted Reading is easy – with easy-to-read digital content!, a programme presenting the Library’s project focusing on persons with reading disabilities, run with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media.
The programme opened with introductory addresses by the Head of the Ministry’s Archive, Library and Museum Activity Sector Jelena Glavić-Perčin and the National Library Affairs Assistant to the Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec, after which the project and its results were presented in greater detail by the Head of the project Renata Petrušić, Library Adviser for Public Libraries at the Croatian Institute for Librarianship Dunja Marija Gabriel, speech therapist Maja Hmelina and Vanja Andrić, the representative of Omoguru, the project’s partner company.
The Reading is easy project was launched with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of reading and the availability in this context of digital material to persons with reading disabilities as well as to facilitate access for such readers to digital content in the Library’s collections within an environment geared to the requirements of this unique group of readers.
The digital content adjusted to persons with dyslexia and other reading disabilities, selected and prepared in the project’s first phase, is available via Omoguru’s Lexie app and will also be included on the NSK Digital Collections website as part of the Reading is easy collection, which will regularly be updated through the inclusion of new content. The easy-to-read versions of titles in the Library’s collections and the advanced features of the Lexie app are also available to the users of 150 school and public libraries taking part in the Reading is easy project.
