The programme BookCrossing – korak u svijet was presented on Thursday, 8 November 2012, in the City Library and Reading Room Vinkovci under the organization of the National and University Library in Zagreb. The presentation was held as part of the 2012 Croatian Book Month and its programme included the participation of the official representatives of the City of Vinkovci and County of Vukovar-Srijem, as well as numerous book lovers and reading enthusiasts.

The City Library Vukovar, City Library and Reading Room Ilok, and Siniša Glavašević Primary School from Vukovar also participated in the presentation via Skype. From now on they will be providing specially designed permanent BookCrossing spots which readers will use for exchanging books and thus become part of this worldwide movement for the promotion of reading.

The City Library and Reading Room Vinkovci, which already joined BookCrossing earlier in 2012, has now spread the BookCrossing practice to the entire city setting up BookCrossing spots at the Vinkovci Main Railway Station and in the Josip Šokčević Square. Thus BookCrossing truly took a step further ‘into the world’, by spreading to public places which bring together large numbers of people.

The National and University Library in Zagreb, with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture, has been successfully promoting BookCrossing for the second year in a row. After setting up BookCrossing spots at the National and University Library in Zagreb and introducing BookCrossing to university and public libraries, this movement is catching up with Croatian citizens through public venues of everyday life.
