On 17 and 18 April 2018, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will host a special workshop on the role of libraries in achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Uloga knjižnica u provođenju UN-ove Agende 2030. i ciljeva održivog razvoja).
The purpose of the workshop is to provide advocacy training for librarians which will help them make libraries an essential part of the national and regional policies aimed at the realisation of UN Agenda 2030.
The workshop is expected to include 25 participants, of which several will be from abroad. Apart from the address to the workshop participants by Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Tatijana Petrić, the programme will include invited presentations by the representatives of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Ministry of Culture.
The workshop is funded by the International Advocacy Programme (IAP), run by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for the purpose of providing support to librarians in advocating and promoting the role of libraries in the context of the realisation of the UN 2030 Agenda, and it is organised as part of IAP regional project conducted through cooperation between the Serbian Library Association, Association of Information Professionals of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatian Library Association.
The workshop will include the presentation of the results of surveys on the Agenda 2030-related library programmes and activities, while all workshop participants will receive an internationally valid certificate of participation.
The Croatian Library Association will soon publish an electronic edition of the Croatian translation of Access and opportunity for all: How libraries contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda (Pristup i mogućnost za sve: kako knjižnice mogu doprinijeti ostvarivanju UN-ove Agende 2030.), IFLA’s document presenting in detail each of the Agenda’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the related best practice examples from libraries around the world.
