In response to the latest developments with regard to the the COVID-19 epidemic, the National and University Library in Zagreb is introducing stricter anti-epidemic measures and is making mandatory the use of protective masks on its premises, at all times.

According to the still effective measures to combat the COVID-19 epidemic and the related limited operating regime under which the Library is currently providing its services, work in the reading rooms is organised based on a safe seating arrangement, according to which users are expected to use only a labelled seat that they have been assigned at their registration for working in a reading room. In order to be able to subsequently make possible the tracking down of contacts and supply other vital data under the circumstances of the epidemic, the Library will continue to keep records of everyone using its reading room services which will include their contact information and a precise indication of the time period spent in the reading room.

The number of users in the Library is currently limited to 305 at a time, and users may track the number of available reading room seats via a specially designed application. The Library’s late hours study facilities, which are available between 21.00 and 24.00 in the Ground Floor area and which users have to register for online, may currently be used by 65 patrons at a time. The number of available reading room seats during the day may also be checked by emailing the Library’s Information Centre and contacting the Centre on (0)1 6164 002, which contact information may also be used to register for using the Library’s extended hours services, along with the possibility to register in person, at the Centre’s info desk. Using rooms for individual or group study likewise requires registering in advance on (0)1 6164 065.

Users have their body temperature taken with non-contact IR thermometers at the entrance to the Library and only those with a temperature of not higher than 37.1 °C (98.78 °F) are allowed to enter. Using special library containers is mandatory and users must take with them all of their belongings at every exit to the Library’s lobby. They may take a break from working in the reading room for up to an hour until 15.00 and during that time leave their belongings at the seat that they have been assigned. The café on the Library’s Floor 5 is currently open from Monday to Friday between 8 and 15.30, while the adjoining restaurant will remain closed until further notice.

Since it is not possible to re-enter the user area during the extended hours services period, users have to take with them all of their belongings when exiting the area.

Users are expected to comply with all the recommendations issued by the Croatian Institute of Public Health and accordingly frequently sanitise their hands, for which purpose a disinfectant is available at the entrance to and other parts of all user areas. In relation to the same measures, lifts are to be used by not more than two persons at the same time.

In order to minimise the number of users entering the Library, users should check in advance whether the items that they are interested in borrowing are available by emailing the Library’s Information Centre or contacting the Centre on (0)1 6164 002.

The Library is inviting its users to closely follow the Library’s website and its profiles on social networks for all notifications regarding changes in the terms of use of the Library’s services occasioned by the measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.
