NSK Director General Dr Stričević attends meeting of CENL Executive Committee
On 23 January 2023, the Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and member of the of the Executive Committee of the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL) Dr Ivanka Stričević attended the Committee’s meeting, held as part of the preparations for the Committee’s this year’s annual meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Paris in June 2023.
Apart from the activities related to the organisation of the upcoming annual meeting, the meeting participants discussed future plans and CENL finances. Amid constant changes and their impact on today’s world, national libraries are in need of fresh ideas and quick adjustments in order to balance their role as the guardians of heritage and tradition on the one hand and as the drivers of development and promotion of new ideas and standards on the other.
NSK Director General Dr Stričević was elected member of the CENL Executive Committee for a three-year term in 2021, along with Frank Scholze (German National Library, Chair), Janne Andresoo (National Library of Estonia, Vice Chair), Karin Grönvall (National Library of Sweden, Treasurer), Vadim Valerievich Duda (Russian State Library), Laurence Engel (National Library of France), Sara Lammens (Royal Library of Belgium) and Hans Petschar (Austrian National Library).
CENL, which brings together 46 national libraries in 45 European countries, aims to strengthen the cooperation between European national libraries and promote their activities and valuable cultural heritage preserved in their collections, in which context Dr Stričević’s membership of its Executive Committee is expected to further strengthen the position of the National and University Library in Zagreb among other European libraries and provide more opportunities for its cooperation with other CENL member libraries as well as with other libraries and institutions in Europe and worldwide.
