On 14 December 2022, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and the St. Clement of Ohrid National and University Library in Skopje signed a five-year cooperation agreement, with the NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević and the Director of North Macedonia’s national library Rahmetula Kuqi acting as the signatories.

The delegation of North Macedonia’s national library included the Head of the library’s librarianship development department Jelisaveta Kostadinova and Head of its IT department Ljupcho Jovanov, who along with the NSK Director General also met with the Head of the NSK Manuscripts and Old Books Collection Dr Irena Galić Bešker, Head of the NSK Joint Operations Department Tomislav Tomašić and Senior Public Relations Adviser at the NSK Marketing and Communications Section Nela Marasović.

Focusing on the two national libraries’ shared interests related to the LIS field, the agreement was also signed as part of initiatives for further improvement of cultural and academic ties between Croatia and North Macedonia. Apart from particularising cooperation between the two libraries through the exchange of relevant publications, data, professional experiences and insights, the agreement spotlights the need for the two institutions’ collaboration on programmes and international projects of mutual interest, including exhibitions, conferences, heritage preservation and conservation initiatives, digitisation of heritage, etc.

At the meeting at which the agreement was signed the two libraries’ representatives agreed to jointly organise an exhibition to be hosted in 2023 by the National and University Library in Zagreb and to feature oriental manuscripts from the collections of the St. Clement of Ohrid National and University Library in Skopje.
