National and University Library in Zagreb hosting 2019 International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) General Assembly and Web Archiving Conference
The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) are jointly organising the 2019 IIPC General Assembly and Web Archiving Conference (WAC). Both programmes will be hosted by the National and University Library in Zagreb and held at The Westin Zagreb hotel. The conference, entitled Web archiving community: maturing practice together, will take place on 6 and 7 June 2019, while the IIPC General Assembly will be held on the previous day, 5 June 2019.
The conference programme will include presentations by two invited speakers – Europeana Foundation Executive Director Harry Verwayen and senior lecturer at The Open University of Israel and one of the founders of its Digital Laboratory Dr Anat Ben-David. It will bring together 136 professionals in the field of information technology and information sciences, along with librarians, archivists, researchers in the field of web archiving and representatives of private companies from all around the world. The programme’s scheduled six panel discussions, four workshops, 36 presentations and six poster presentations will offer them insight into the latest achievements at the global level in the development of web archiving tools, technologies, standards, and present various examples of good practice in these fields which should contribute to facilitating the use of this type of archived content in analyses and research.
The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) was established in 2003 on the initiative of the national libraries of Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the US Library of Congress and Internet Archive. The Consortium’s members are libraries, archives, museums and other heritage institutions and its objective is to enable the collection, preservation and long-term accessibility of online content, develop and make widely available shared tools, technology and standards for the setting up of a global web archive, and encourage libraries, archives, museums and all other heritage institutions to collect online content.
The National and University Library in Zagreb and its Croatian Web Archive have been members of the Consortium since 2008, so this year’s IIPC General Assembly and Conference coincide with the Croatian Web Archive’s 15th anniversary.
