National and University Library in Zagreb Day 2023

Objavljeno 17.2.2023.

A special celebration programme marking the 2023 National and University Library in Zagreb Day will be held on 22 February 2023 in the Library’s grand lobby, starting at 12.00.

Apart from an overview of the Library’s activities and achievements in 2022 by the Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Dr Ivanka Stričević, the celebration will include the presentation of the 2022 National and University Library in Zagreb Award, which will this year be given in two categories, and an accompanying musical programme featuring a performance by harpist Doris Karamatić and vocalist Nika Pastuović.

The National and University Library in Zagreb Day is marked in memory of 22 February 1483, the day of the printing of the first book in the Croatian language, a missal ‘Missal by the Law of the Roman Court’ (Misal po zakonu rimskoga dvora). The Library’s logotype, the letter of the angular Glagolitic alphabet Iže, i.e. the transliterated Latin letter ‘I’, has been taken over precisely from Misal, the oldest incunabulum in the Croatian language and the first book in Europe not printed in the Latin alphabet, the date of whose publication since 2019 has also been celebrated as the Croatian Glagolitic Script Day. Ushering in the Day’s celebration will be the presentation of the missal’s 2022 facsimile edition published as a way of marking the 540th anniversary of its printing and as a result of the cooperation between the Old Church Slavonic Institute, Chakavian Assembly in Roč, the Mozaik knjiga publishing company and the Library.

Another programme announcing the celebration of NSK Day, 2023 NSK Doors Open Days, will be held on 20 and 21 February 2023 and include guided tours of the Library, workshops presenting the work of the Library’s conservation specialists and the Library’s other activities, programmes and services.
