“Marko Marulić – A European Humanist” NSK exhibition opens at Klaipėda County leva Simonaitytė Public Library in Lithuania

On 3 June 2020, the Klaipėda County leva Simonaitytė Public Library in Lithuania will host the opening of Marko Marulić – A European Humanist (Markas Maruličius – Europos humanistas), an exhibition presenting Marko Marulić, “the father of Croatian literature”, that the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) prepared in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the Republic of Lithuania, as part of NSK programme spotlighting rich and varied Croatian cultural heritage during Croatia’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The exhibition will be opened by the Director of the leva Simonaitytė Public Library Dr Laura Juchnevič, Mayor of Klaipėda Vytautas Grubliauskas and Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in the Republic of Lithuania Krešimir Kedmenec. The opening will be live streamed via the Library’s Facebook page, starting at 16.00.

The exhibition, which the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania hosted from 15 January to 14 February 2020, tells the story of “the Croatian Dante” through 12 display boards, with texts in Lithuanian and English, putting special emphasis on the impact that Marulić’s work had on his prominent European contemporaries, including those Lithuanian.

The Marko Marulić – A European Humanist exhibition will remain on view until 16 June 2020, and will subsequently be put on in Kaunas.
