“Library Services Platforms”: Call for papers for 2022, 6th open conference for users of NSK Integrated Library System

On 16 December 2022, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will host Systems Librarianship Conference 2022, the 6th open conference for users of the Integrated Library System of the National and University Library in Zagreb and the Croatian Academic and Research Libraries. Organised with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, the conference aims to bring together information professionals and librarians from all types of libraries, regardless of the integrated library system used or implemented level of automation.

The Systems Librarians conference focuses on issues related to the development and implementation of information systems and the digital transformation of libraries and heritage institutions. It places particular emphasis on the significance of adopting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches with regard to information systems, knowledge management and implementing information systems in heritage institutions.

Its aim is to provide a platform for the presentation of new knowledge and insights, exchange of views and experiences and demonstration of research projects and programmes, as well as programmes and services in the field of the implementation of information systems and digital transformation-related processes in heritage institutions.

The conference is equally intended for professional practitioners and LIS and ICT researchers, as well as those in the field of informatics, and other scientific fields, promoting the use of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach and cooperation between speakers through evaluating paper proposals based on these elements in particular.

This year’s conference theme, Library Services Platforms, will address issues concerning the development of next generation library systems, interoperability of information systems, implementation of standards applying to information systems, networking and linking of information systems, development of knowledge organisation library formats and new opportunities in this context, linked data systems, development of metadata standards and ontologies, development and implementation of semantic infrastructure, as well as the reuse of heritage data.

The sub-themes include:

– library services platforms: enabling a single point of access for searching print, electronic and digital resources, characteristics of next generation library systems, discovery services, digital repositories, API, distributed information systems, blockchain technology, Web 3.0,

– format development: the development and updating of formats, metadata translation, format conversion, linked data, metadata schemes, development and implementation of ontologies, interoperability, BIBFRAME,

– linking, exchange, sharing and permanent use of heritage data: data literacy, big data, research data, linked data, open data, digital analysis, data visualisation, machine learning, cooperation in the field of digital humanities,

– digital transformation: systems librarianship, embedded librarianship, smart libraries and library services, augmented and virtual reality (AR & VR), Internet of things (IoT) and heritage institutions.

Proposals may be sent for 15-minute oral presentations, 25-minute presentations of programmes and services, 60-minute workshops, and 5-minute poster presentations, abstracts for which have to be composed according to a structured proposal template and submitted until 1 December 2022 via an online submission form. The use of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach and cooperation between speakers is particularly encouraged.

The conference programme will be announced on 5 December 2022 and the conference papers and all other submissions published and made publicly available as part of the symposium website under the Creative Commons licence.
