Latest NUL publication. Pavao Ritter Vitezović at the NUL Manuscripts and Old Books Collection
The catalogue entitled Pavao Ritter Vitezović u Zbirci rukopisa i starih knjiga Nacionalne i sveučilišne knjižnice u Zagrebu, presented on 28 May 2013, brings chronologically organized works by Vitezović preserved at the National and University Library in Zagreb. These include Vitezović’s manuscripts, letters and printed works, as well as works dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the death of Vitezović. Apart from works by Vitezović, the catalogue also includes a list of all available literature on Vitezović and his work.
The catalogue’s introduction gives a brief overview of Vitezović’s work as a politician, poet, linguist, lexicographer, riddle maker, historian and geographer as well as a man of great vision ‘searching for a solution of Croatia’s overall sovereignty issue in the blazing whirl of then wartime Europe’. His official service as a representative at the Parliament, deputy prefect, royal counsellor, member of the state boundary commission and his work as a copperplate engraver, printer, publisher and Croatian army captain, represent only some of the facts from Vitezović’s life included in the catalogue.
The homonymous exhibition highlighting the publishing of the catalogue has been put on in the lobby of the Library and will be open until 7 June 2013.
