Happy Easter 2019!
With a poem by the late Croatian poet and Fellow of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts Ante Stamać (1939-2016) and a selection of old Easter cards from the Library’s Print Collection, Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Tatijana Petrić and the Library’s entire staff wish everyone, especially the Library’s users, followers and partners, happy Easter holidays!
by Ante Stamać
Almighty God, my only God, my
Single hope in my allotted days,
I am sift and time, drop on the palm that stays
Not, where hours rub and moments multiply
That go to waste, against each other cry,
At the heart of those wounds should gaze,
Which your Son, for men’s erring ways,
Bore more than bodily capacity.
Bore may your mighty maturation
Bring every dear one calm and peace,
Efface pretence and vicious emulation.
Let bitterness and heartache henceforth cease,
With them abide the Transfiguration,
And may each find in you the soul’s release.
