“Greetings from Croatia – on postcards of long ago”: NSK digitisation campaign kicking off on 17 Oct 2022
The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) is launching a digitisation campaign that will be taking place as part of Greetings from Croatia – on postcards of long ago, the Library’s project aimed at the digitisation of old postcards documenting lesser known Croatia’s vistas and run with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media. Organised as an extension of the project, focusing on the digitisation of old postcards preserved in the NSK Print Collection and their inclusion in the NSK Digital Postcards Collection (Pozdrav iz Hrvatske), the campaign will spotlight old postcards kept in private collections featuring as less famous as impressive Croatian landmarks.
Starting on 17 October 2022, the campaign will target the public, inviting citizens to search their family memorabilia for old postcards and bring them to the Library to be digitised and added to its Digital Postcards Collection, which currently includes over 1,000 unique postcards, whose handwritten greetings, messages, wishes and notes along with the motifs of cities, mostly in Croatia but also from across the world, images featuring ethnographic details, both famous and ordinary people of the past, animals and objects once in everyday use vividly evoke days gone by and are equally attractive to researchers, postcard enthusiasts and the general public.
Citizens will be able to bring their postcards for digitisation every Monday starting from 17 October, between 11.00 and 16.00, upon sending an announcement at razglednice@nsk.hr. They will be able to observe up-close their postcards being digitised and will subsequently get them back.
Take a walk online through the streets of Croatian cities and towns as they once were by visiting the NSK Digital Postcards Collection.
