Delegation of National Library of Korea visits NSK

On 9 and 10 May 2022, the delegation of the National Library of Korea, consisting of the Library’s Chief Executive Suh Hyeran, Head of the Library’s Online Resources Department Ryu Eunyoung, member of the Library’s International Cooperation and Public Relations Department Park Yoonhee and the Department’s interpreter Nam Hyang visited the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK).

The delegation met with the NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević and her assistants, the National Library Affairs Assistant Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec, Head of the NSK Acquisition and Collection Development Department Dr Vesna Golubović, Library Adviser at the Croatian Institute for Librarianship and Head of the NSK Croatian Digital Library Development Division Karolina Holub and NSK International Cooperation Adviser Jasenka Zajec, on which occasion the representatives of the two libraries discussed possibilities for continuing their cooperation, with special emphasis on publications exchange, the two countries’ legal deposit systems, especially with regard to online publications, the two libraries’ experiences in web archiving, resources related to or thematising Korea in the Croatian national library’s collections, cooperation on the creation of online exhibitions and exhibition exchanges in 2023.

In 2021, the National Library of Korea hosted an exhibition presenting Croatian literature and cultural heritage from the Middle Ages to the modern time (Hrvatska književnost i kulturna baština od srednjeg vijeka do modernog doba), which was in large part based on the National and University Library in Zagreb’s Croatian Glagolitic Heritage exhibition and the facsimile editions of Glagolitic codices in its collections.

During the visit, the Korean national library’s delegation took a guided tour of the Library and took part in the presentation of the Croatian translation of a novel by Korean politician, novelist and librarian Young Shin set in Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, and relying on Croatian heritage and history (Susret u Dubrovniku. Zagreb: Ibis grafika, 2021).
