“Croatian written heritage in school curriculum” NSK exhibition on view until 12 Nov 2022 as part of Croatian Book Month 2022
On 2 November 2022, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted the opening of Croatian written heritage in school curriculum, an exhibition featuring works in the Library’s Manuscripts and Old Books Collection included in the Croatian primary and secondary school curriculum as part of the teaching programme for Croatian and History. Remaining on view until 12 November 2022, the exhibition was organised with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and is taking place as part of this year’s Croatian Book Month.
The exhibition’s opening programme included a welcome address by the Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Dr Ivanka Stričević and Envoy of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and State Secretary at the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media Dr Ivica Poljičak. The exhibition was then presented in greater detail by the Assistant Professor at the Zagreb Faculty of Teacher Education Dr Vesna Budinski and the author of the exhibition Kristina Judaš, a member of the NSK Manuscripts and Old Books Collection. The programme also included the reading of selected verses representative of Croatian literary heritage given by Croatian stage and screen actress Mia Anočić-Valentić.
Addressing primary and secondary school students in particular, the exhibition’s 17 display boards present the treasures of Croatia’s written heritage between the Middle Ages and the 19th century and attempt to bring them closer to the younger generations and broaden their most often strictly school-oriented perspective of this valuable heritage.
The exhibition’s follow-up content, intended to serve as a useful and inspiring teaching aid for primary and secondary school teachers, includes the exhibition’s online counterpart, while the digital versions of the featured works are available on the NSK Digital Collections website.
