Basic activities
The National and University Library in Zagreb is a public institution of national importance which conducts library activities and provides reference services of the national library of the Republic of Croatia and the central library of the University of Zagreb. The Library also undertakes scientific, research and development activities with the primary purpose of organizing and developing the Croatian library system.
The Library assembles and organizes the Croatian national collection of library materials, including electronic materials, coordinates the acquisition of international scientific works at both the national and the University level, produces catalogues and union catalogues, conducts the activities of the national bibliographic centre, and creates current, retrospective and special databases.
The Library is also responsible for the preservation of its holdings, and it thus stimulates and implements the preventive preservation and conservation measures. It also provides reference services, conducts educational, publishing, and promotional activities, and organizes and produces exhibitions.
