NSK Director General visits Bulgaria’s national library and Library of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”

On 6 and 7 March 2017 Director General of the National and University Library in Zagreb Tatijana Petrić visited the “St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library of Bulgaria and Library of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

The visits, which were organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Croatia in Sofia, were occasioned by the opening of the Sacred Tongue of My Predecessors: Croatian-Bulgarian Parallels, a touring exhibition prepared as a result of the collaboration between the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK), Embassy of Bulgaria in Croatia, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and “St. Kliment Ohridski” University Library. The opening was attended by more than some hundred guests, including 16 ambassadors from countries all around the world.

At the “St. Kliment Ohridski” University Ms Petrić met with the University’s Rector Anastas Gerdzhikov and other representatives of the University, during which occasion a cooperation agreement between the National and University Library in Zagreb and “St. Kliment Ohridski” University Library was signed. Ms Petrić and Director of the “St. Kliment Ohridski” University Library Anna Angelova talked in greater detail about the two libraries’ cooperation in terms of the exchange of library resources, as part of which the Croatian national library donated to the “St. Kliment Ohridski” University Library titles and materials for the purpose of the preparation of the ongoing Sacred Tongue… exhibition. Apart from discussing other areas of cooperation, the two directors also made arrangements concerning a regular exchange of experiences of each library with using the Aleph integrated library system.

During her visit to the “St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library of Bulgaria, Ms Petrić was given a guided tour of the Library and met with the Library’s Director Krasimira Alexandrova. Discussing various possibilities for the widening of the already existing cooperation in terms of the exchange of library resources, the two directors also talked about opportunities for the organisation of joint exhibitions and conferences, as well as about staff exchange.
