NSK Christmas cards available as part of the “Greetings from Zagreb” mobile application
NSK mobile application Greetings from Zagreb got its special holiday content – Advent in Zagreb Christmas cards collection. Ten newly added cards, which the application users may personalise by adding stickers and frames also offered as part of the application, are the digital versions of historical Christmas cards preserved as part of the Library’s Print Collection. Their reprints were published in a special issue of Večernji list, an influential Croatian daily newspaper, on 5 December 2018, as a gift from the National and University Library in Zagreb to Croatian citizens.
Postcards offer fascinating glimpses into past times, holding valuable records of the history of places, people, various customs and traditions. More than a hundred thousand of them are preserved as part of the NSK Print Collection.
As Head of the NSK Print Collection Tamara Ilić-Olujić said, “Due to their motifs and the patina of days gone by, old postcards are especially interesting today. We hope that the reprints the Library published in collaboration with Večernji list will bring that past closer to the public and inspire citizens to wish their loved ones happy holidays full of beautiful memories by sending them one of the charming old cards we have selected”.
Greetings from Zagreb, the Library’s mobile application that the Advent in Zagreb Christmas cards collection has been made available as part of, was developed by NSK Digital Library Adviser Sofija Klarin Zadravec, Dragana Koljenik, from the Library’s Croatian Digital Library Development Division, and Darko Čižmek, from the Library’s Imaging and Digitisation Division, in collaboration with the Blue factory IT company and support of the Zagreb Tourist Board. First launched in 2017 and one of the winners of IFLA BibLibre International Marketing Award 2018, the application got its special holiday content as part of the Zagreb Now and Then (Zagreb nekad i sad) 2018 project, also supported by the Zagreb Tourist Board.
