Night of Museums at the National and University Library in Zagreb

The National and University Library in Zagreb invites you to join the marking of the already traditional Night of Museums on Friday, 27 January 2012, from 18.00 to 1.00. This will be the seventh Night of Museums in Croatia taking place at more than one hundred Croatian museums, galleries and cultural institutions.

The exhibition that the visitors will be able to see in the lobby of the Library entitled ARTE ET MARTE: Knjige o arhitekturi u Zriniani (ARTE ET MARTE: Books on architecture in the Zriniana Collection) presents the tractates on architecture in the Zriniana Collection (Bibliotheca Zriniana). The Collection is preserved as part of the Manuscripts and Old Books Collection at the National and University Library in Zagreb and contains works from the 17th century personal library belonging to Nikola VII Zrinski and his son Adam and books by the Moravian nobleman Ignác Jankovský z Vlašimi. Authors of the exhibition, Jasenka Gudelj, Ph.D., and Dubravka Botica, Ph.D. from the Department of Art History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb demonstrated their long experience in studying interest in architecture and architectural heritage shown by various noblemen of the early modern age.

From 20.00 to 00.00 the exhibition will be guarded by the Zrinski Guards from Čakovec, Croatia who will greet the present visitors by passing around in a procession of two rows, holding up a sabre and giving a traditional shout: „Navik on živi ki zgine pošteno!“ („The one who dies with honour shall live forever!“). Visitors will be able to take photographs with the members of the Guard and refresh themselves with warm tea or coffee. Various souvenirs and Library publications will be available at attractive prices.
