Marking World Book and Copyright Day, 23 April, and Croatian Book Day, 22 April, the National and University Library in Zagreb invites you to the Book Night programme which will be held on Monday, 23 April 2012, between 18.00 and 1.00.

The central event of this programme at the National and University Library in Zagreb will be a public debate entitled Knjiga u krupnom planu (The book from up close) where the distinguished representatives of Croatian political, cultural and public circles will discuss the current status of books in Croatia. Following the debate, the visitors will be able to see the exhibition of valuable translations from the holdings of the National and University Library in Zagreb entitled Čitamo se… (Reading each other…).

A part of the programme will be dedicated to International Public Reading which will include several public reading sessions as part of which various diplomatic representatives, members of the eminent international institutions in Croatia and students will read selected literary texts in Croatian and other world languages in the lobby of the Library.

The BookCrossing spots will also be set up in the lobby of the National and University Library in Zagreb as part of this special programme. Library users as well as all interested individuals will be able to use these spots to leave books which they wish to share with others and at the same time browse books similarly left by others. According to BookCrossing principles, these books will be returned after reading to the BookCrossing spots in the Library to perpetuate the cycle of book exchange.
