“Croatian Glagolitic Heritage” exhibition visits Lithuania
As a way of marking Croatian Statehood Day, Croatian Glagolitic Heritage, the 2018 exhibition of the National and University Library in Zagreb spotlighting the oldest Croatian alphabet and its related heritage, will be put on in several Lithuanian cities, as a result of the Library’s cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the Republic of Lithuania.
The exhibition opens on 12 June 2019 at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius, and will remain on view until 20 June. After Vilnius, the exhibition will also visit Kaunas, Šiauliai and Panevėžys.
The Library originally put on the exhibition as one of its European Year of Cultural Heritage programmes. Under the slogan Proud to letter it in Glagolitic, the exhibition was organised with the aim of presenting to the wider public the Croatian oldest alphabet, its historical development, typography, cultural impact and modern use.
The purpose of this large exhibition has not only been to tell the story of Croatian Glagolitic in an unpretentious and interesting way, but also to present the Library’s Croatian Glagolitic Heritage project and the related Glagoljica.hr online portal, which makes available both to academics and the wider public Glagolitic books, manuscripts and research papers in the field of Glagolitic studies digitised as part of the project. Also, Glagoljica.hr makes available the exhibition’s online counterpart.
