Call for participation of Croatian books in exhibitions in Frankfurt and Leipzig
This year again the National and University Library in Zagreb is the organizer of the public competition for the selection of well-designed Croatian books which will be included in the exhibition BOOK ART INTERNATIONAL, which will be held as part of the International Book Fair in Frankfurt between 10 and 14 October 2012, as well as in the exhibition BEST DESIGNED BOOKS ALL OVER THE WORLD, which will be held in Leipzig in March next year. These exhibitions focus on presenting great creative accomplishments of art editors and designers as well as those in the field of the art of printing.
At these exhibitions more than 35 countries across the world present their yearly production of books divided in seven categories. The categories include literature, science, monographs on art and various artists, photo monographs, children’s books and books for youth, school books, bibliophile editions, reprints and catalogues.
Prompted by the wish to follow current tendencies, but at the same time facilitate the application process, we decided to enable all candidates to submit their applications via e-mail. Therefore we invite all interested Croatian publishers to submit the covers of books that they would like to register for the competition, presenting all the details which make them especially well-designed, illustrations, etc., along with a completed form which is available online, at osj@nsk.hr not later than 10 July 2012. All attachments should be in a .pdf or .jpeg format. Only books published between 11 August 2011 and 9 July 2012 may enter the selection. Publishers whose titles will be chosen by the expert panel of judges in the first phase of the selection will have to send a copy of their book by post so that the final selection could be made.
After the closing of the fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig, the selected books will be included in the holdings of the German Book and Type Museum, which is part of the German National Library (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek).
