CROATIAN BIBLIOGRAPHIES
The compilation of national bibliographies – current and retrospective – stems from the legal provisions and the unique role of the National and University Library (NUL) in Zagreb to permanently collect, preserve, protect, process and make available its collection.
The national bibliographies are based on the legal deposit copy that NUL, as the national bibliographic centre, receives on the basis of the 1997 Law on Libraries.
The bibliographies are compiled in accordance with the programmes of Universal Bibliographic Control (UBC) and Universal Availability of Publications (UAP) and they are available in printed and since 2002 in online editions. The National and University Library produces:
Current bibliographies:
- Series A, Books
- includes monographic publications, graphic portfolios and exhibition catalogues, printed music, maps, atlases, tourist guides and a selection of ephemeral material acquired as legal deposit. Publications printed outside Croatia represent an important part of the national collection and have been systematically collected and included since 1992. Each issue consists of the main order as well as author index, title index, subject index and ISBN index. The bibliography is published monthly (12 issues a year). For publications published before 1990 it is available in printed edition and for publications published since 2000 it is available in both formats, printed and online.
- Series B, Articles in Journals and Proceedings
- includes scientific and professional articles and a selection of literary and other valuable contributions from periodicals (journals, proceedings, annuals and calendars) published in the Republic of Croatia. Each issue consists of the main order as well as author index, subject index and list of publications that were analytically processed. The bibliography is published monthly (12 issues a year). For publications published from 1990 to 1999 it is available in printed edition and for publications published since 2000 exclusively in online edition.
- Series C, Serials
- includes current titles of journals, annuals, proceedings and calendars published in the Republic of Croatia during the year for which the bibliography is produced. Each issue consists of the main order, publishers’ index, title index and ISSN index. The records in the main order are arranged according to the UDC. For publications published from 1991 to 1999 the bibliography is available in printed edition and for publications published since 1997, in online edition as well. It was published twice a year (two issues a year) from 1991 to 1997 and since 1998 it has been published annually.

edition
- includes data on forthcoming books by publishers registered in the Republic of Croatia and participating in the CIP program. Preliminary CIP records are made according to the material and information obtained from the publishers prior to publication. It includes monographic publications, exhibition catalogues, graphic portfolios, printed music, specialised tourist guides and other printed publications satisfying the selection criteria. It has been published monthly, since 2002 exclusively in online edition.
